Weight loss appears to be very tedious if you have a busy life style. But not so with a little bit of knowledge and careful planning.I almost gave up the battle several times showing up reasons for myself. One of them is after office stress. I knew I had to lose weight, but I kept work stress as one of the reasons for not cooking and ate whatever I my eyes and hands could find and especially when I was hungry you see a happy ending to my foodie heart.pizza, pasta, pearly white rice, frozen crinkled potato chips and what not!!!
Washing dishes, cutting vegetables, food prep and cooking is really a big deal after work especially when you come home hungry! You tend to eat whatever that available on the fridge top or kitchen counter or your hands get itchy until you pop in that frozen pizza into the oven. The power of frozen food that you buy from market is that if not chosen properly it can worsen your weight loss energy like any other fatty foods. It is your choice to make it either a boon or curse to your weight loss journey.
What is Frozen food?
Frozen food is some sort of ready made packet food that can be instantly consumable or can be easily made up for eating in a very quick time.
How is it bad for Weight Loss?
Since frozen food needs to be edible for several months it will be made with high amounts of salt, fat and preservatives.Remember salt and fat(not so healthy fats) are weight loss enemies and preservatives invade our bodies in ways that cannot be even predicted. But there are exceptions always for us if we keep our eyes wide open, you my dear weight loss partner.
How frozen food can help weight loss?
Of course not all frozen food is harmful. For example if you chose a bag of mixed cut vegetables then you are perfectly fine as you can simply add them to your stew without having the hassle of food prep after a long tired day be it you are a working woman or stay at home mom.And that cute zip locked bag of frozen cherries..my all time go for morning smoothies. We will dig in further down in the post for more varieties of these gems<3
Frozen vegetables or fruits are frozen fresh soon after hand picking them and most of them do not contain any preservative at all.If chosen correctly they can have a very positive effect on your weight loss journey.
You can use frozen fruits in quick breakfast smoothies or healthy desserts.
Use frozen vegetables in stews, omelet,or combine with healthy carbs like cooked brown rice, quinoa or couscous to make a quick meal instead of a high fat drive thru meal or ending up buying a frozen take away in Tesco.
Since frozen food enables quick cooking you will have more time to concentrate on exercise and relax which means you get motivated more to continue your weight loss regime.Winner!

1.Simple Green Smoothies
It is such a wonderful and most intelligent decision for my own health that you need to experience for yourself. We will get into it a bit later but now let’s have some fruity talk.
Fruits are an excellent source of natural sugars, vitamins and essential nutrients. They are ideally low in calories, fat and high in fibre-that’s an amazing recipe for weight loss. And when they are pre-cut and wait for you to get consumed, who doesn’t say NO? Imagine you wanna make a delicious almond cherry smoothie and the pre-work you have to do removing their seeds manually !!
How to use them?
Smoothies, Breakfast bowls, toppings for oatmeal, healthiest ices creams, granitas, salads, roasted dinners, low calorie desserts, cool treats like ice lollies etc.
Try to look for frozen fruit that are not added with added sugars and any chemicals.
Buy them in bigger packs and preferably that comes with zip lock.
Also I try not to buy whole fruit and prefer cut fruit, it makes my job easy!
Remember to take out the needed portion ahead of time and leave it on the counter top.I try to avoid microwave as much as I can.
Never re-freeze the fruits once they become juicy under room temperature.I did this once and the taste is not as good as the other.
3.Frozen Home Cooked Meals
It is the #1 frozen food that works wonders. United council of food experts and nutritionists ,excuse me.I often freeze my meals and I find it absolutely and practically an easier approach to do less cooking and eating healthy. And I was not prone to any food poisoning for sure so far.
Why is it good for weight loss?
It helps you deviate your foodie heart and immediate cravings from drive thru meals and sodium rich ready meals and fat loaded greasy takeaways.
When dinner is ready as soon as you reach home from work, you tend to eat healthy and depend less on bad snacking while you take time to cook.
Makes you life easy giving you more time to concentrate on going for a evening walk or your fav gym.
What to freeze?
My fav is Dal or cooked Indian lentils. It works wonders for any vegetarian or for that matter anyone who are on weight loss. It’s a great accompaniment for any kinds of breads, rice, grains like quinoa(yes! try it out) and cous cous.Freezing home made dal saves me time that required for cleaning the pressure cooker daily and ofcourse that long cooking time.
Cooked Lentils,Boiled beans, chickpeas, brown rice, cooked quinoa, vegetable curries(yes, those grilled chicken breasts) .
Never try to re-freeze a meal once it is heated or unfrozen in normal room temperate, Believe me it always failed, yes failed.
Take out the food from the freezer ahead of your meal time and try to not put in microwave imemdiately. The.The less time you use microwave that more it is good and tasty for you.
For a quicker turn aound, once the food is kept out for some time, try to sauté it in a pan which will add a fresh touch to the food.
4.Not the store bought less calorie Frozen meals
Yes, its a NO for me, forget about weight loss, the foodie soul in me has never been satisfied with this frozen paneer jalfrezi or a lean and clean Asian noodles(yes , a true Asian inside:)). They lack that freshness in the taste due to high amount of greasiness and salt in them.Loaded with additional sugars, salts, saturated(one that is difficult to burn) fats, it is a strict NO-NO for me.Yes they do attract me while walking in those colourful aisles of Tesco or Asda, but they are not as beautiful as they appear in reality. 2 minutes guys, just 2 minutes of controlling you food senses until you reach the checkout!
If I don’t have time and energy to cook or am on a long drive , I prefer a bowl of salad if its summer and a slice of bread with tasty houmous topped with fresh cut vegetables otherwise.
5.FEED ME MORE from your refrigerator
Am always looking for ideas that can be included in my weight loss cookery list. Please drop me a line if you have any own experiences. I have less time to cook always.
